The album consists of pieces by Polish composers written at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, i.e. in an era when the violin resounded in the world’s largest concert halls, as well as in the courts of the nobility and the salons of the bourgeoisie. The compositions that served as the basis of the virtuosos’ repertoire, usually extremely technically demanding, could show their artistry – they were often written by them for their own use. This genre includes the miniatures presented here, which are complemented by one larger form – the sonata. Once appreciated, performed by famous artists, they were forgotten, despite their undoubted charm, catchy melodies based on Polish motifs and virtuoso potential in the parts of both the violin and the piano. Marek Polański, an excellent violinist from Kraków, together with Grzegorz Biegas, a valued chamber musician, resurrect them after many years with panache, technical bravura and musical sensitivity that are not inferior to the legend of the old Polish virtuosos.
